The Maremma’s last town on the border with Lazio is self-contained. It’s a favourite with foreign tourists, who come for the culture and the art and the amazing beaches that are just a few kilometres from the shore.

Capalbio has its own sophistication and two very popular international film and art festivals that infuse it with an almost Cannes-like vibe, if only for a short amount of time.

During the rest of the year, Capalbio lives for its walls.

The town is almost entirely surrounded by its original walls.

Benches are dotted around the walls to give you ample excuse to sit and simply take in the view that has earned Capalbio plenty of awards from the environmental group Legambiente and the Italian Touring Club.
